Perticaia, in the archaic language of Umbria, was the word by which the plough was called, probably the tool that more than any other represents the symbol of the transition from sheep-farming to agriculture, with which the whole of humanity has in fact established a deep and indissoluble bond with the land. It is precisely because of this inseparable bond with the land that a deep-rootedness in the territory has consequently been created.We are in Montefalco, precisely in the locality of Casale: it is here that the approximately 50 hectares of vines owned by the Becca family meet.This is how, in the heart of green Umbria, after purchasing the land and planting the vineyards, the construction of a modern winery began, perfectly inserted into the surrounding environment. Among the rows of vines, in addition to Sagrantino, of course, there are also disangiovese, colorino, trebbiano spoletino and grechetto varieties. In all cases, vines grown with full respect for the environment, nature and the ecosystem. In the cellar, every production step is aimed at enhancing what the season and the territory have been able to express in the fruit. In this way, today Perticaia is a model organic winery for the territory: a winery capable of producing wines of great expressiveness and elegance, to be discovered one by one, to get in touch with Umbria. With those that are the most representative grape varieties of the entire region and of the Montefalco area in particular. A territory, a vine, a wine. It is only natural that it was here, in the centre of green Umbria, amidst hills planted with vineyards and olive groves, dotted with towers, villages and medieval castles, that Perticaia was decided to be born. After purchasing the land, substantial work began on planting new vineyards and building a modern winery, in perfect balance with the surrounding environment and taking care to maintain the appearance of the old farms in the area. Respectful of the teachings of the past, the winery now boasts around fifty hectares of vineyards, more than ten of which are planted to Sagrantino, as well as one and a half hectares of olive groves: "Vigna delle Querce" is bordered by centuries-old trees that have been preserved after the transformation of the land, which was once used for arable farming; "Vigna Attone" runs alongside the stream of the same name and "VignaMontioni" takes its name from the family of the former owners. The land, all hilly, lies on a gentle slope, at an altitude of between 320 and 350 metres above sea level, and is mainly exposed to the south, south-west.As is traditional for the Perticaia winery, after the harvest, which is carried out by hand, every production step is aimed at enhancing what the season and the land have been able to express in the fruit.
