This is the first take-off point encountered when climbing to the top of Monte Subasio. Starting from Assisi, it is about 2 kilometres from the Hermitage of the Carceri.

The take-off is signposted by a wind hose placed along the road on the left, where you can leave your car and walk to the take-off point located 50 m up the slope.

This take-off is preferred when, in winter, the other take-offs cannot be reached due to snow or the cloud base is lower than the other take-offs. The wind direction for this take-off is from the SOUTH or SOUTH-WEST. In summer, it is not recommended to take off in the hottest hours due to strong thermals.

This is the second take-off point encountered when ascending the summit of Mount Subasio from Assisi. It is located about 4 kilometres from the Eremo delle Carceri di Assisi and is recognisable by a windpipe on the left, along the road near a small pine tree.

There on the side of the road you can conveniently leave your car. The best wind for taking off is from the NORTH, but care must be taken when in the valley because it may be stronger than at take-off.

It is advisable not to go too far in the direction of Assisi because the wind may not allow you to return to the NORTH landing (there are no other landings between the North landing and Assisi). Sometimes, when conditions permit, with a light wind from the NORTH, it is possible to go round, passing Assisi to head for the Rivotorto landing.

Do not choose this route when the wind is from the EAST or NORTH-EAST.

This is the third take-off point encountered when ascending the summit of Mount Subasio from Assisi. It is 5 kilometres from Eremo delle Carceri and is on the left along the dirt road near a footpath along the fence.

You can leave your car on the roadside, cross the pedestrian crossing and drive 200 metres in a NORTH-EAST direction along the slope. A wind hose signals take-off.

It is preferable to take off from here with the wind from the EAST or NORTH - EAST, but care must be taken when in the valley as it may be stronger than at take-off. In addition, the wind may create turbulence when landing and become stronger due to the Venturi effect.

This is the fourth take-off point encountered when ascending the summit of Mount Subasio from Assisi. It is about 7 kilometres from the Eremo delle Carceri di Assisi and is located near a wind gauge along the road on the right, where there is a wooden sign with the words DECOLLO OVEST.

It is the busiest take-off in the area, where one takes off in WEST, NORTH - WEST and SOUTH - WEST winds. In moderate NORTH - WEST winds, the San Rufino pass causes downwind in the gorge below.

This is the fifth take-off point encountered when ascending the summit of Mount Subasio from Assisi. It is about 9 kilometres from the Eremo delle Carceri di Assisi and is signposted by a wind gauge on the right of the road and a wooden sign with the inscription DECOLLO SUD.

It is preferable to take off from here with a SOUTH or SOUTH-EAST wind.

The landing site has a surface area of 1 hectare that allows for comfortable landings, although it is good to keep an eye out for the (marked) high-tension cables near the sports field, adjacent to the landing site and the trees bordering the landing site, which can create a slight turbulence in the event of sustained winds.

HOW TO GET THERE: Driving along the E 45 (in the direction of Perugia - Foligno; Foligno - Perugia) exit at Rivotorto and head towards the town centre. Near the Sanctuary, turn right into Via della Regola di San Francesco. You will find the landing along the road 200 m on the right.

It is used when flying with the wind from the NORTH or EAST, and due to its morphological conditions it is recommended to be very careful of possible turbulence. The Club also has excellent relations with the owners of adjacent and surrounding land due to the respect that pilots have for those who work the land. We ask you, therefore, to take all necessary precautions when landing.

HOW TO GET THERE: Proceeding towards Assisi, take the SS 444 that connects Assisi to Gualdo Tadino. After about 3 kilometres, at the crossroads where some agritourisms are signposted, turn right and continue for about 1 kilometre until you reach a ruin on the right-hand side of the road. After about 200 metres you will find the landing site, which is signposted by a wind hose.
